About Patterdale Village Store & Post Office

Located at the heart of the English Lake District and directly on the Coast to Coast long distance walking route, Patterdale Village Store and Post Office has been providing a quality friendly service to visitors and local people for nearly one hundred years.

We're a small village store that aims to offer a whole lot more. We have a little bit of most things - from food to postcards, from walking equipment to wine and beers, from souvenirs to frozen food, from post office services to local information. Our speciality is home made bread and freshly baked cookies which we bake daily. And if you've got a debit card, you can also get your hands on your cash through our cash back service.

Whether you're planning an ascent of Helvellyn, walking the Coast to Coast route or exploring hidden corners of the Ullswater valley, make sure you call in to see us.

You can also contact us before you leave home to order provisions, Coast to Coast souvenirs, some of our home made bread or other essentials.

Wainwright

"Patterdale is a rival to Borrowdale in the magnificence of its surroundings. Dominated on one side by the rugged mountain wall of the Helvellyn range and on the other by the steep flanks of Place Fell, with, between them, that loveliest of lakes, Ullswater, curving gracefully into the far distance." So wrote Wainwright in his introduction to the Coast to Coast walk. Our shop was the first to sell his books.

The village of Patterdale lies at the southern end of Ullswater, at the heart of the Lake District. Surrounded by mountains and and with easy access to Ullswater, it offers the ideal opportunity to explore some of the Lake District's finest fells - or simply relax on the shores of Ullswater with the magnificent mountain scenery as your backdrop.

We share Wainwright's love of this special corner of the Lake District. And when we're not in the shop, you'll probably find us out on the fells (or in the local pub!). We hope that you will call in to see us! We aim to provide a friendly service that meets your needs.
